Winterizing Your Sprinkler System

Winter is fast approaching! Before you know it you’ll wake up to snow on your front lawn. Before this happens, your sprinkler system needs to be looked at. During the fall months we spend a lot of our time blowing out sprinklers. This is also known as winterizing the sprinkler system. Winterizing your sprinkler system is very important as it blows the water out of your irrigation lines. In turn, this will keep your pipes from freezing and having to replace lines or repair broken pipes down the road.

Typically you won’t know when your pipes have frozen until you try to water your lawn in the spring. If your pipes are damaged from freezing, you’ll know right away. In Northern Colorado, we suggest winterizing your sprinkler system in October. It’s hard to know when the weather is going to abruptly change, so it’s best to stay ahead of the freeze. Here in the Longmont community, we’ve seen damaged pipes and systems too many times. Avoid the headache and the financial burden of damaged sprinkler pipes by blowing out your sprinkler system and making sure it’s ready for winter.

The method we use is the blow out method. This incorporates a large air compressor that uses compressed air to force out the existing water in the pipes. Before we start we make sure the main water valve is turned off. The air forces the water out through the sprinkler heads and leave almost no water in the pipes.

Give us a call and we can help you winterize your entire sprinkler system and get it ready for the winter months.
